Ingredients
  

Beef
  • - 1 lb ground beef
  • - 2 cloves garlic minced
  • - 1 teaspoon fresh ginger grated
Sauce
  • - 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • - 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • - 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • - 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • - 2 tablespoons water
For Serving
  • - 2 cups cooked rice
  • - 1 cucumber thinly sliced
  • - 2 green onions sliced
  • - 1 tablespoon sesame seeds

Method
 

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up, until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Add the garlic and ginger and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, red pepper flakes, and water.
  4. Pour the sauce over the beef and simmer for 1-2 minutes until slightly thickened and well coated.
  5. Divide rice among bowls and top with the beef mixture.
  6. Garnish with cucumber slices, green onions, and sesame seeds.

Notes

  • Storage: Keeps in the fridge for up to 4 days; flavors deepen overnight.
  • Make ahead: Beef mixture can be made ahead and reheated on the stove.
  • Swap: Ground turkey or chicken can replace beef; a pat of butter can replace sesame oil.
